Examples of Preventing Homelessness with Faith Communities
In April 2023, the WMCA Homelessness Taskforce in collaboration with the West Midlands Faith Strategic Partnership (FSPG) published Preventing Homelessness with Faith Communities to help faith communities explore their unique role in preventing homelessness.
Building on this work we have started to put together some great examples of work being undertaken by faith communities that demonstrate prevention in action.
Provision House in Dudley, Sufi Abdullah Foundation in Birmingham and Guru Nanak Satsang Gurdwara in Wolverhampton highlight below the particular strengths of faith communities in building resilience and promoting positive social support networks as trusted influential presences within communities.
Each project is meeting the needs of their local community through a variety of different ways including food provision, training opportunities and housing advice.
Provision House, Dudley
Provision House are offering crisis prevention and relief to the people of Dudley through a social supermarket, furniture packs and training.
Sufi Abdullah Foundation, Birmingham
Sufi Abdullah Foundation is preventing homelessness by offering specialist housing support to their local community through a partnership with Shelter.
Guru Nanak Satsang Gurdwara, Wolverhampton
Guru Nanak Satsang Gurdwara in Wolverhampton are offering universal prevention through food, clothing, mental health, education and their world-famous Wolverhampton Wrestling Club.
