Sector: Healthcare
Size of Organisation: 1000 employees
Thrive Lead: Joanne Williams and Laura Tilley-Hood
What They Do: An orthopaedic hospital located in Northfield, Birmingham, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust employs over 1000 members of staff. It is small enough to maintain a family feel and is considered a specialist in bone and joint problems.
How Thrive at Work has impacted the organisation: Joining the programme allowed them to build on the great work they have already completed to be a supportive employer but allowed a more formal recognition with the Thrive accreditation to demonstrate their commitment.
Communication and engagement were at the heart of their success. Reviewing channels and methods of communication, ensuring information was accessible and in a format like folders which made wellbeing information and services easily available to all staff who really appreciated and valued this thought. This saw an uptake in attendance at events, and a wider range of staff accessing the 12-month wellbeing calendar of activities and signposting.
Following feedback from a menopause awareness session lighter weight uniforms were issued to staff to help them cope with symptoms associated with the changes in body temperature during the menopause. “Senior management are committed to the wellbeing of staff and achieving the Thrive Award is a great achievement,” said Joanne Williams, Chief Executive Officer.
