What is TechAbility?

“TechAbility is a Natspec and Karten-funded assistive technology service aimed at improving outcomes for young people with SEND in further education.”


What is Policy Connect?

Policy Connect is a cross-party think tank with a mission to shape better public policy.

  • Specializes in secretariats for All-Party Groups and Commissions in Parliament.
  • The Accessibility Team manages:
    • The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Assistive Technology.
    • The Accessible Transport Policy Commission.

Steven:

  • Recently retired widower with macular degeneration and extreme sight loss.
  • Uses devices like a robot vacuum cleaner and Amazon Echo to stay independent.
  • Frustrated by the lack of local support for tech setup and maintenance.

Laura:

  • Young professional with multiple sclerosis.
  • Struggles to navigate assistive product options for MS.
  • Lives in a cold flat, worsening her symptoms.

Sandra:

  • Mid-forties, has cerebral palsy, mild learning disabilities, and communication impairments.
  • Lives in a care home with poor digital connectivity.
  • Uses a digital communication aid with an eye-gaze system, but staff lack digital skills to support her.

David and Sarah:

  • In their early seventies, living in a small town.
  • Sarah has heart disease; David recently broke his hip.
  • High social care demand delays David's return home.
  • Occupational therapist suggests technology to aid daily tasks but lacks time or expertise to implement solutions.
