Bus Franchising Panel Sessions

In September 2024, the Panel came together for two Saturdays to help influence how the WMCA approached the bus franchising consultation. 

Whilst the decision of whether we should consider moving to a bus franchised system is still to be made by the Mayor and Local Authority Leaders, we wanted the Panel to help shape what a future consultation can look like. 

Bus franchising can be a complicated topic, and we wanted to make sure that the language and questions asked within the consultation would be accessible to the public. 

The Panel also spent time considering their time as a Panel, to shape how the WMCA could continue with a citizens' panel.

This half day learning session allowed the Panel to understand what bus franchising is, why the West Midlands is considering franchising and ask questions.

In this full day session, the Panel continued to influence the bus franchising consultation and also provided input into the continuation of the Panel post 2024
