The Dorothy Parkes Centre

Community Allotment

The Dorothy Parkes Centre is an established community centre in Smethwick successfully supporting the local community through a variety of interventions including uniform banks, social clubs, youth clubs and exercise classes. A lot of the work they do is prompted by the cost of living and health needs of the local area.

The project is an extension of the successful community allotment located at the nearby Bearwood Allotments. The project provides safe free access to green space for local people, schools and mental health support groups. This project will see the transformation of a second plot and additions to the successful first plot. This will increase biodiversity and access. The second plot will have a focus on growing fruit and vegetables to try and help local people experiencing food poverty and provide produce to food banks.
