Ryan Hatch
Tutor Award
Ryan had a distinguished career as a Jockey, achieving milestones such as being a two-time Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner, but his career was cut short in 2017 due to an injury. Ryan is now a tutor at RMF Training Academy, sharing his passion and teaching horse care to a wide range of adult learners.
"I’m passionate about horses and horse racing, and believe the equine industry should be accessible to everyone. Our learners come from all walks of life, including returning citizens, unemployed people and ex-offenders. The majority have had no contact with horses before. Seeing the progress learners make from the beginning to the end of their course is hugely gratifying, as they conquer fears and gain confidence around the horses, but most importantly, in themselves.
"I have worked with over 100 learners. Those who complete the course are guaranteed an interview and opportunity to change their life. Many learners have now got jobs or progressed to further training in the industry.
"I use my skills and lived experience to support learners. I also develop my own professional skills through additional qualifications and training. I am currently working towards a Level 3 assessors qualification, which will help me to ensure learners develop industry-standard skills."
Adam Murray, Head of Learning at RMF Training Academy, said: "In the face of personal and professional adversity, Ryan’s passion for the horse industry is unwavering. Unable to return to his previous career as a jockey, he became determined to use his experience to benefit others. As a result of Ryan's teaching, his learners have overcome personal obstacles and are proud to share their new skills at work."
