Moving into Adulthood
Careers Intervention AwardÂ
The Moving into Adulthood Careers Fair is a free event dedicated to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), attracting more than 300 students, teachers and parents.
A collaboration between the City of Wolverhampton Council and Tettenhall Wood School, the annual event is specially tailored to young people with additional needs who are in year 9 and above. Exhibitors include colleges, training providers, supported employment services, social care settings and community groups. Careers advisors from Connexions Wolverhampton offer on-the-spot information, advice and guidance.
The fair in 2023 paid special attention to creating an inclusive environment, with Wolverhampton Outreach Service providing a sensory zone for students who needed time out from the busy exhibition hall. Adults with SEND also gained valuable work experience supporting the event and served as role models.
The fair gave everyone involved plenty of food for thought about the opportunities that are out there for children and young people with SEND in Wolverhampton as they move into adulthood.
