Visitors to Birmingham were treated to 100 days of Creativity Summer 2024 and now the whole region is getting involved with West Midlands Creativity Week.
What is Creativity Week
West Midlands Creativity Week is about sharing the richness of our young and diverse region through a weeklong celebration from Friday 4 October to Friday 11 October 2024, where we will shine a spotlight on the arts and creative industries, entrepreneurs and talent of our region.
As part of West Midlands Creativity Week you can join the first exclusive ACTIVATE Masterclass on Innovation and Creativity in person on Thursday 10 October 2024, 10.30am - 1pm at Springfield Brewery (part of the University of Wolverhampton). Culture & Creative Ecologies Symposium
As part of Creativity Week, West Midlands Combined Authority will be holding their first Culture & Creative Ecologies Symposium on Wednesday 9 October 2024,at Black Country Living Museum, Dudley.
This day will consist of panel discussions, sharing of best practice and planning for the future as we explore the extraordinary range of creative skills and talent we have in the region. Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, will set out his vision for Culture & Creative Industries alongside creative leaders and national partners to celebrate the West Midlands as a centre for creativity, storytelling and enterprise.
Programme summary for Symposium
9:30am – Arrival, Registration and Refreshments
Morning: 10am – 12:30pm
The first part of the morning will include a welcome from Cllr Harley, Leader of Dudley Council, short films, and a creative sharing with The Belgrade Theatre about their latest work. After the break, Mayor Richard Parker will offer his thoughts on how we transform our creative economy in the region using the power of creativity as an agent for change. This will be followed by Panel 1: The importance of regional champions for the sector in the West Midlands and a creative sharing, leading into lunch.
LUNCH: 12:30pm – 1:30pm
Lunch provided, Walking Tours of Black Country Living Museum (optional) and networking.
Afternoon: 1:30pm – 5pm
The afternoon will begin with a Key Note from Dr Roya Rahimi, Associate Professor in Marketing and Leisure Management, University of Wolverhampton & Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. This will lead into Panel 2: What role does the day and night time economy play in shaping the cultural identity of our region?
After the break we will have Panel 3: WMCA & Arms-length Bodies - The importance of collaboration and partnerships. This will be followed with conversations hosted by Culture Central’s Inclusive Network and reflections of the day.
