Digital Retraining Fund in Coventry

Beat The Bots

With an estimated 1.5 million UK jobs at risk from automation in the coming decade, we have set up a £5m Digital Retraining scheme to ensure our region has the right skillset to ‘beat the bots’.

The £5m Digital Retraining fund aims to pay for digital training for up to 1,900 people in the West Midlands over the next three years. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is working with colleges and training providers to suggest innovative ways to deliver digital training in the region.

Our first providers have now been chosen, taking us one step closer to a comprehensive retraining programme in digital. The course on offer rage from coding training for adults in low paid employment to infrastructure bootcamps and digital cafés for adults struggling with mental health issues.

Providers in Coventry delivering digital training:

  • Code Your Future who will be training adults employed in low paid employment in coding with a focus on engaging the refugee community across the West Midlands – this is a part time blended learning delivery model that enables adults to fit training around current employment.
  • Generation who will deliver cloud technology retraining to JCP customers, particularly aged 18 to 30 across the region moving them into employment.
  • School of Code who will extend their successful bootcamp model to offer to adults
  • Open University who have developed a new delivery model based on their successful OU products that will retrain employed adults in cyber with a particular focus on women.
