Create Central UK
This industry body hopes to boost the West Midlands’ creative output by promoting the region as a production base for new content and gaining investment for local projects
There has never been a better time to invest and support the creative sector in the West Midlands. With big names such as Amazon, Apple, Disney and Netflix all investing hundreds of millions of pounds in original UK content, there is a chance for our region to capitalise on its title as the ‘Home of Original Story Telling’.
Create Central UK hopes to harness the talent of the brightest and best people within the industry so that we can collectively turbo charge our creative sector. Members of the Industry body include Peaky Blinders writer Steven Knight and Nativity film franchise founder Debbie Isitt, to name but a few.
Create Central has been developed with national bodies including the BFI, ScreenSkills, UKie, Creative England, the Creative Industries Federation and PACT to build on the region’s existing creative and cultural talent and take it to the next level, helping to drive investment, growth and thousands of new jobs.
The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) have recognised that the screen sector cannot grow without the right talent and skills in the region, which is why they have partnered with Create Central. The WMCA has made £500,000 available to Create Central to launch a series of pilot Create Central Bootcamps in collaboration with ScreenSkills, Ukie and local colleges and providers by the end of the year. These bootcamps will act as schemes to train more people for jobs in the film, TV and games sectors.
Create Central UK was launched in October 2019. More information can be found using this link.
